Nelly spoke to La Nacion Viva (Costa Rica) and was asked some interesting questions, most important for the first time she talks about the delay of The Spirit Indestructible. Check out my translations below:

Why was the album release delayed?
We decided we wanted more time to release another single. I also wanted to travel to various parts of the world, as I have been lucky enough to be successful in so many places I wanted to go to talk and then release the disc.

Still think that Big Hoops (The Bigger the Better) was the right choice as lead single?
Totally. I think with this album is important to show people it’s an album that is avant-garde and not something that would have been so obvious. I think Big Hoops does not sound like anything you hear on the radio, which is a big plus because it captures the attention of people in an organic form. You do not always want a radio hit, is great, but that does not mean that people will be interested in the album. I’m more an artist album and for me, throw an interesting song, beyond the obvious, is good.

Do you feel pressure to repeat the success of Loose?
I think for a moment I felt like that and that’s was why I made the album in Spanish because I wanted to take a left turn instead of going direct. Anyway, I think that singers never repeats their successes. Thus, the success of the album Whoa, Nelly! (2000) never repeat it because it’s a totally different album, the audience is different and the time in the world too. But yes, I think I managed to set a sound on the radio at the time, was a great trip and enjoyed it while it lasted, but never the same, each disc is different: the way they feel and how you feel the fans. So fortunately I have the head well positioned to come out with this album and all that pressure disappeared.

The success of Loose placed you on a level next to the stars of the moment Beyonce and Britney Spears. Did you feel prepared for this madness?
Not really (laughs). Loose was a kind of experiment. I was in Miami, having a great time and wanted to show people I could do a pop album and although my music was eclectic, could also compete with pop artists and proved I could. I am a person who experiences because I can and I try, but I’m ready for a new experiment. It was interesting being in that world pop … yes it was fun.
